Machine-generated – Using machine-generated content is a black hat SEO tactic that consists in automatically create pages with non-sense, keyword stuffed content generated by a tool. It was one of the most efficient black hat SEO tactics in the past, but it has no real effect nowadays.

Manual submitting – Manual submitting a site to different directories and site lists is one of the best off-page SEO tactics, because if the submission is manual one can be sure that the most relevant category was selected. Although directories links were constantly devaluated by search engines algorithms in the last years they still carry enough link popularity and since there are tons of free directories it’s one of the fastest and easiest ways to increase rankings. However submitting a site to search engines (even if we’re talking about manual submitting) is not recommended; a faster and better way to get a site indexed is to gain some back-links from other already indexed sites.

Meta Search – A meta search takes in consideration search results from several different sources (search engines) and present a single, consolidated result. But although the idea is a good one and there are quite a lot of meta search engines out there none of them has at least a decent market share.

Meta tags – Meta tags are used to tell search engines bots and other software robots what a page is about. They were one of the most important SEO factors in the pioneer stages of search engines, but because they were abused their importance was constantly reduced and nowadays they carry almost no value. The most important meta tags are the description meta tag and keyword meta tag, the first one having and another special role – most times the description for sites which we see on SERPS are taken from the description meta tag of that page.

MSN Search (search.msn.com) – MSN search (Microsoft’s search engine) is the third search engine in terms of market share, seconding Google and Yahoo.
